February 8th is the last time we attended PSP at the Brandywine Zoo. It was also the first time we were on time and didn't miss anything, which was nice. The theme was triangles. The instructor began by showing the kids pictures of animals and things that are triangular, which got the kids familiar with the shape. Then she led them around the mural-covered room to search for other triangles. Trent followed right along.

Then the instructor tossed paper shapes onto the floor and asked the kids to find the triangles and tape them to a board. Trent didn't quite get it, but he enjoyed picking up the different shapes.
The next activity consisted of the kids making triangles using their body parts. They used their arms and hips to make a triangle...
they used their thumbs and pointer fingers....

their legs and torso (downward facing dog?)...
Next, they did a craft.

...and this is the triangle-themed animal we got to see. The Skink. His marking, specifically on his forehead, are triangular (and let's be honest, the Brandywine Zoo doesn't have many animals to choose from, so sometimes it's a stretch. We missed the "star" theme program but I imagine if they didn't have a starfish to share with the group, they were pretty screwed). |
