First real haircut

Kevin took a week of vacation from work when Claire was born.  It was wonderful having him home that whole first week - especially because we had some great weather!  We didn't always feel like hanging around the house, so one day we decided to go get Trent's hair cut by a pro.  We took him to Kids Kuts.  Unfortunately he is too little to sit in his own fun chair, so he had to sit on my lap (i had invisioned him sitting in a rocket ship chair, or something similar).  The stylist was kinda weird, but friendly enough.  Going into the haircut I considered telling the woman not to cut Trent's bangs too short but I decided to let her do whatever she wanted since she's the experienced one.  Well, in the end I had wished I told her.  His bangs are just too short and too straight-across for my liking.....but I know it will grow back quickly.  Trent got a cute little certificate for having his very first real hair cut and the lady put some of his longer hair in a cute little envelope.

AFTER
(for the record, I think his hair looks adorable here....swept off to the side)

After the haircut we hit a playground we'd never been to before.  Trent really enjoyed himself

eeek, i just cut his hair!!!!!!!

I've given him a quick trim around the ears a few times before. And Kevin has given his curls a quick trim several times (we aren't fans of curls on our guy). But I just gave him a real haircut. Well, as "real" as an inexperienced mom can. I felt like a little girl cutting her dolls hair. You know....when they cut some, then decide to cut more, then a little more, and before you know it the Barbie only has a few short spikes sticking out of her head. Yeah....that's about where we stand right now. And we're going to a birthday party in 3 hours. Today might be a hat day for us ;-)

chanting to self: *it' just hair. it will grow back. it's just hair. it will grow back*

(ok, it's not THAT bad. And yes, I left it longer in front on purpose. Doesn't he look thrilled)

mohawk update

There was a day last week when Kevin noticed that the other little boy at daycare had a mohawk haircut (this boy is 4 years old). Apparently Kevin and Cameron had a conversation about said mohawk, and Kevin asked him if Trent should get that haircut. Cameron said yes. So that's when Kevin called me and asked if he could do it. My gut screamed NOOOOO but I just told Kevin I had to think about it and that we'd talk about it when I got home from work. I was thinking Trent's hair wasn't thick enough for a mohawk yet. I was thikning his scalp wasn't ready for a pair of clippers to buzz it (perhaps a stupid thought?!?). I was thinking I just wasn't ready for such a drastic change. But of course part of me thought it would be awesome. I love seeing little boys with mohawks. But anyway, that's when I posted the poll to the left - right after Kevin asked me. I pretty much already knew my answer was no, but I thought it would be interesting to see what you guys thought. I'm sure the day will come when Trent gets a mohawk - maybe he'll even dye it blue?!?! who knows. But that day is not today.

In other news (related to hair): I've decided that if Baby #2 (more on that later) is a redhead, I'm going to dye my hair to match theirs :-P

thanks for everyone who voted

redheads attack

Kevin, Trent and I went to the mall on Saturday to get lunch (they have an awesome pizza place that, unfortunately, was closed. booo). We ended up getting pizza (from a place not nearly as good) and some Auntie Annes pretzels for dessert. While standing in line at AA I took Trent out of his stroller and was holding him, waiting for our pretzels, when all of a sudden I have this woman by my side telling me, "Red hair and blue eyes.....I have one of them too!! And don't worry, everyone asks me 'where does the red hair come from' too". She said the "where does the red hair come from" part in a whiny, mimicy voice. Let's face it, you can only be asked the same questions so many times, and i totally understood where she was coming from. Her husband, who took a minute before realizing his wife was no longer by his side, wheeled around and brought their baby girl up to meet Trent. Husband and wife were both brunettes.

After talking for a few more minutes we found out our babies share the same birth day! What are the chances? Lets face it, Newark is pretty small and redheads are sparse.

I have to admit though - I see redheads more now than ever before! It's like when you get a brand new car and suddenly you see that same make, model and color everywhere you go.

(leaving the mall Kevin says to me, "you're going to blog about this aren't you?" hahaha)

grey is the new brown

When I was pregnant I found my first ever grey hair. My first thought was, "man, this kid is turning me grey already!" I plucked it, showed Kevin, text'ed my brother to tell him I was going grey, then forgot all about it. A few months later I found another little grey hair in the same area. I am assuming it was the same grey hair since it was in the same spot and it was very short. I plucked it again. It is now back for the 3rd or 4th time. Up until a few weeks ago it was the only grey I'd ever gotten, so really I couldn't complain. Well, a couple weeks ago I had my hair pulled back in a pony when I noticed a kinky silver hair sticking out the side :-(

I always hear parents say their kids turned their hair grey - but now I believe it!!!

Actually, Trent is an amazing baby so I highly doubt it has anything to do with him...not to mention premature greying runs in my family (well....at least one of my relatives).

we need rogaine

his beautiful hair is thinning :-(
I hate to see his hair go but i am anxious to see what color grows in its place-possibly the same? possibly darker?
i love watching him change and grow!
