a weekend with special people

Kevin and I started our weekend on Friday night with "date night".  We went to Potstickers and enjoyed a nice long dinner w/ dessert.  We contemplated seeing a movie afterward but nothing struck our fancy, so we walked around Best Buy a little before heading home with full bellies and empty hands.  It was nice to sit down at a restaurant and take our time, just the two of us.

Saturday morning I had planned on meeting a group of my mommy friends at a local park for a Nature Babies program.  The event is for children 2 years old and younger, and was scheduled to begin at 10am and last only 30 minutes.  Of course I managed to get lost so I got there late, but we were by no means rushed out of the place.  My friends and I ended up staying an additional hour or so, just playing and chatting.

I wish I could say more about the actual Nature Babies program, but I literally got there 5 minutes before the end, so I missed most of it.  What a gathered is that everyone sat in a big circle while the instructor talked about different wildlife animals, one at a time.  She had stuffed animals (and in some cases real animals that were stuffed) of the different critters, and even some machines that made noises for certain animals.  She seemed to do a lot of interacting with the kids - like, she'd walk the stuffed animal up to each child and talk a little about it: "this is a raccoon.  Do you feel it's fur?".   Oh, and at the end of the program we all sung a song.

(there were 11 kids there all together, but this is my group of mom friends.  The four kids on the left were all born in November of 2008.  The first little boy on the left actually shares Trent's birthday.  The third mom in is hoping I have a little girl so that her little one has someone to play dolls with later in life.  It's not easy getting our group together all at once but we were very fortunate that day!)

Later Saturday night I had "moms night out".  Kevin watched Trent while I met up with some of my mom friends sans babies.   A couple of the moms were from earlier that morning.  We sat around drinking tea and eating snacks while working on crafts and sharing our birth stories.  It was amazing to hear how each of our experiences were so different.

I have a list of things I want to get done before BBJ arrives, so at moms night I worked on a shadow box I've been itching to make for Trent.  I had already semi-made one for him but I wanted to make it bigger and better.  In the end I was happy with how it turned out.  I still have to spray paint the frame then it will be done!

On Sunday I had the pleasure of visiting with a friend of mine who lives a few hours south of me.  She was in town visiting family for the weekend so she stopped on over for a quick visit.  Her and I grew up together but so rarely see each other these days.  It was a real treat.

(here we are as little girls - this is one of our fondest memories together: baking homemade apple pies for girl scouts)

Rewind to last week - Kevin's birthday.  We had a not-so-great roast followed by some wonderful cupcakes (boxed mix).  yum yum yum.  It's a good thing looks don't dictate how tasty something is!
