Make your own bubbles sounds easy, right? Just dump some dish detergent into a [whatever] and dilute with some water. Well, no.
You can find several "recipes" for giant bubbles & wands on the internet. Just do a search. I found a recipe in a magazine called Sweet Paul. Not only was it not as easy as mixing water & detergent, I actually had to special order an ingredient. And once all the ingredients were carefully mixed and skimmed, we had to wait 24 hours before using the mixture :-)
In the end it was worth it. We made the wand using 2 sticks, string & a washer. The mixture was a combo of glycerine, dish detergent and distilled water. It took some practice but we ended up getting some amazing bubbles.
$7 glycerin
$ couple bucks dish detergent
<$1 distilled water
